I'm a Scientist Get me Out of Here

I’m A Scientist, Get Me Out Of Here

March 26, 2020 by Share Your Sci

I’m A Scientist, Get Me Out Of Here is an online interactive event that allows school students to interact with scientists. Researchers in the UK, Ireland or Spain can apply to take part in two-week online events that run at different points throughout the year. (In the past, separate events have been organised in the USA, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia and Kenya.)

What does participation involve?

  • Chat with students. During the period of the activity, students get a chance to talk to the scientists during live, text-based chats.
  • Answer questions. Students ask questions that you can answer in your own time.
  • Game show element. During the two weeks of the activity, students vote for their favourite scientists based on your answers and chat participation. After elimination rounds, the final scientist standing receives prize money to spend on their own scientific engagement.

Topic areas

I Am A Scientist uses different zones to group scientists by research topic, and to keep discussions relatively focused. For example, psychologists face off against each other in the “Community Zone” and chemists in the “Molecule Zone”.

During the COVID-19 outbreak in Spring 2020, a special “Green Zone” was set up to allow students to interact with researchers during school closures.
